November 6-7, 2009:
A doctor’s appointment, and a long interview with David White and two of his students took up much of Friday, along with writing a poem, looking over a bunch of my old poems while I thought about putting together a book of adult poetry, and going through a lot of back magazines that have been piling up.
Saturday Heidi and I left the house early, riding through sunrise towards Boston where we spoke to a group of about 50 teachers and librarians, along with illustrator Scott Magoon, Allen Kurtzweil author, and Susannah Richards who is a professor of children’s literature at East Ct. University and a dear friend. Heidi said, and I absolutely agree, that “I have been to conferences that were held over three days and not gotten this much content.” It was a fascinating combination of entertainment, information, and books. Heidi and I then went out t a leisurely lunch with two of the organizers, the afore-mentioned Susannah and our editor Judy O’Malley. Then we found a store that sold children’s stuff and bought a lot of bits and pieces for the upcoming holidays.
By the time we drove home (about two hours) I was exhausted. I was in bed by 8:30, slept in till 6 a.m. Whosh!
