How Do Dinosaurs Laugh Out Loud?
Illustrated by Mark Teague
Cartwheel Books; Brdbk edition (September 1, 2010)
This is what is called a novelty book, and it has lots of dino-stickers to add to each double page along with one of my silly dino rhymes. Or the dino stickers can go on a child’s shirt. Or a classroom GOOD WORK page, etc.
This book and the HOW DO DINOSAURS LAUGH OUT LOUD are the beginning of what is called “branding” in the book world, i.e. taking a very popular series and doing new and interesting and novel spin-offs. But Mark Teague and I are determined to have a hand in everything, AND a say. I insisted I get to write everything, not hand it over to someone else and simply put my name on it which—alas—happens rather more often than you might think!
What reviewers have said:
- “With chuckle filled rhymes and deliciously silly and funny jokes, Jane Yolen gives her young audience a delightfully dinosaur filled book. As with the other How do dinosaurs…titles, Mark Teague’s illustrations perfectly compliment the text. Young dinosaur fans will find his colorful and expressive dino characters quite irresistible.”—Looking Glass review
- “They’re back!! The colorful clatter of Jane Yolen’s beloved dinosaurs have stomped across the pages of her latest addition to her classic How Do Dinosaurs… series. This time the dinosaurs require a little “hands-on” help from their young audience by providing lift-the-flap punch lines. These favorite reptiles are bowled over in laughter with their own silliness and the reader participation can be quite as humorous.
This edition is formatted in a sturdy board book style, strong enough to keep the flaps and pages intact through many readings (it is sure to be a favorite).”—San Francisco Book Review.
