My daughter Heidi and I wrote this little rhymed book for Little Simon, which is the novelty imprint of S&S. A novelty book has other features than just words and pictures. This is an enlarged board book with a soft cover. We wrote and rewrote it till the two of us were happy enough, sent it to Little Simon where the wonderful editor, Sonali Fry, made us rewrite it some more. Such is publishing. The pictures by Sam Williams are so adorable, they make you want to smile.
We are hoping it does well so we can do a sequel.
What reviewers have said:
- “Fancy Nancy in her attitude, Charles Schulz’s Pigpen in her execution, this mother-daughter team’s heroine has a charm all her own. Princess Pig hustles to get her home ready for her “big tea party,” but she can’t escape her species’ reputation for messiness: “The dining room needs paint and plaster./ Princess Pig paints faster and faster./ She thinks it’s fine–but what a disaster!/ Pretty Princess Pig.” Luckily, as the foldout finale reveals, her friends don’t mind a little mess. With their pastel palette and nimble linework, Williams’s watercolors match this princess’s verve.”—Publisher’s Weekly
- “The illustrations in this picture book are laugh-out-loud funny. The rhyming is flawless. Children from 4 to 6 will enjoy Pretty Princess Pig’s idea of getting the house ready for her company.”—BookLoons
- “Williams illustrations are incredibly expressive. You can easily see Pretty Princess Pig’s eagerness to make things perfect for her guests as well as their dismay at the disarray that greets them. I’m not a princess fan but I had great sympathy for Pretty Princess Pig. I’m still the one who constantly has something smeared across her clothes, a lock of hair in her face and either pet hair or my own hair dangling about. . .Pick up a copy to share with mess-maker in your life who is both girly and chaos on the hoof. Together you can share this story that is gently sweet and funny all at the same time. I’m just waiting for a certain someone’s birthday to pass a copy on.”—St Louis Post Dispatch
- “A fun story for young readers about being proud of who you are.”—KidsBookshelf
- “Pretty Princess Pig follows a very busy little pig that has to have things just a certain way for her fast approaching tea party. Your little ones will love the things Pretty Princess Pig does to get her house ready. She is a very busy (and messy!) pig!”—MacaroniKid.com
